Reaching Beyond the Low Hanging Fruit

In the summer of 2007, I bought and moved into a house with a lot of fruit trees.  Growing up back East, I had not really been exposed to fruits.  Sure there were apples and Florida oranges, but nothing like what was awaiting me in my own yard.

As I began harvesting the trees and enjoying the literal fruits of my labor, I began to realize how blessed I was with this veritable orchard for the taking.

The plums were juicy and plump, but all that remained by the time I moved in were at the top of the tree and required a 20 foot picker.  Then the pomegranates began to ripen and as I struggled to get them out of the tree, I soon realized that the fruit at the top of the tree was much juicier and sweeter than the fruit within my grasp.  I am sure nature could explain this – perhaps because the fruit had been on the tree longer or closer to the nourishing sun.

However, as I gave it more thought, I knew that this was the perfect analogy to life.  Truly the sweetest rewards were from those goals most difficult to attain.

So, as I enjoy the tangerine juice squeezed from the last of the fruit picked from the very top of the tree, I encourage to you reach a bit higher and reap the sweet and juicy rewards of life.
